The key to the New World species of Cryptolestes View in CoL View at ENA
is modified from Thomas (2002a) to include C. robinclarkei , C. thomasi and C. pederneirensis sp. nov. Figures from the corresponding couplets from that paper can be consulted when necessary.
1. Pronotum with a secondary line between sublateral line and lateral margin (may be partially effaced or complete) ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 (a)) ............................................................... 2
- Pronotum without a secondary line between sublateral line and lateral margin .................................................................................................... 11 (in Thomas 2002a)
2(1). Body broad; secondary sublateral line of pronotum complete from base to apex (males unknown) ( Brazil) ....................................................................................................... 2A
- Body slender; secondary sublateral line of pronotum effaced at posterior half.......................................................................................................................................................3
2A(2). Body very stout, convex; club antennomeres short, rounded, almost as wide as long; secondary line of pronotum equidistant from sublateral line and lateral margin .............................................................................................. C. obesus Thomas, 2002a
- Body strongly flattened dorsoventrally; club antennomeres elongate, narrow, distinctly longer than wide; secondary line of pronotum closer to sublateral line than lateral margin ........................................................... C. robinclarkei, Thomas, 2002b
3(2). Punctation of head and pronotum sparse, punctures smaller than an eye facet and separated by 2–6 diameters, surface between punctures generally smooth and glossy ....................................................................................................................................... 4
- Punctation of head and pronotum coarse, punctures as large as or larger than an eye facet, separated by 1–2 diameters, surface between punctures generally microreticulate ....................................................................................... 6 (in Thomas 2002a)
4(3). Secondary line distinctly angulate at about basal third; male antennal scape unarmed ( Mexico and Honduras) .................. .................. C. turnbowi Thomas, 2002a
- Secondary line not angulate; other characters not as above (mostly South America) ....................................................................................................................................... 4A
4A(4). Body surface with pubescence inconspicuous; male and female antennal scape small, subequal or shorter than antennomeres 2–4 combined ............................. 4B
- Body surface covered by conspicuous, decumbent pubescence; male antennal scape elongate, much longer than antennomeres 2–4 combined ............................... ........................................................................ C. pederneirensis sp. nov. [female unknown]
4B(4A). Antennal scape untoothed. ................................................ C. ampiyacus Thomas, 1988
- Male and female or only male antennal scape toothed ............................................. 5
5(4B). Secondary line diverging from sublateral line from apex to base, where it joins at the posterior angle; pronotum abruptly declivous laterad secondary line; male antennal scape with an external tooth ..................................................................................... .............................................................. C. trinidadensis Thomas, 1988 [female unknown]
- Secondary line parallel to sublateral line; pronotum not abruptly declivous laterad sublateral line; male and female antennal scape with a ventrointernal tooth ..................................... ..................................... C. thomasi ; Hauth and Bremer, 2020
