Genus Falsocaenia Pic, 1922

Falsocaenia Pic, 1922: 24 (subgenus of Idiopteron ).

Type species: Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) meridanum Pic, 1922 (original designation).

Diagnosis. Body small to medium-sized (5.1–10.6 mm), antennae in both sexes serrate, pubescent, antennomere 2 extremely minute, antennomeres 3–10 similarly shaped. Eyes hemispherically prominent. Labrum transverse. Maxillary palpi long, 4-segmented, palpomere 3 extremely long, 2.5x longer than 2, terminal palpomere oval or often apically pointed. Labial palpi short, 3-segmented, terminal palpomeres apically pointed, elongate, with inner margin arcuate. Mandibles short, hooked. Pronotum transverse, trapezoidal, widest basally, median longitudinal carina strong, bifurcate, forming longitudinal groove in distal half; pronotum deflected mediolaterally; anterior margin strongly (males) or slightly (females) arcuate forwards, anterior angles rounded, lateral margins divergent posteriad, posterior angles acute, posterior margin bisinuate. Scutellum longitudinal, rhomboidal, widely triangularly emarginate in apical 2/5. Anterior thoracic spiracles small, tubular.

Elytra rugged, enlarged posteriorly, widest in posterior third or quarter. Each elytron with 3 longitudinal costae, only humeral portion with four costae (residual costa 3), costa 4 forming humeral margin, strongly elevated and protruding laterally. Intercostal interval with single rows of reticulate cells, cells rectangular, largely transverse. Prosternum trapezoidal, distal angles acute, mesosternum transverse, arcuately trapezoidal. Legs flattened, trochanters elongate, moderately widened apically, ½ as long as femur, tibiae straight, their spurs sharp, small, tarsomeres 1–4 lobed.

Male terminal sternum elongate, proximally rounded. Spiculum gastrale absent. Male genitalia with slender phallus, constricted in distal third or quarter, distal portion oval or circularly enlarged, parameres as long as 3/4 of phallus, ventrally fused in basal third, phallobase as long as half of phallus. Female genitalia flattened, apical portion of coxites, proctiger, and styli setose, valvifers strongly shortened, basally fused forming thin ventral bridge, coxites long, medially emarginate and approached in distal third, styli as long as half of coxites.
