Falsocaenia longehumeralis ( Pic, 1922)

( Figs 4, 5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 19, 20 View FIGURES 16 – 30 , 57–59 View FIGURES 54 – 65 , 70 View FIGURES 69 – 76 )

Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) longehumerale Pic, 1922: 24 .

Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) callanganum Pic, 1922: 24 . — syn. n.

Type material. Holotype of Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) longehumerale , female, ‘ Peru: Callanga’ ( MNHN) .

Holotype of Idiopteron (F.) callanganum , male, ‘ Peru: Callanga’ ( MNHN).

Diagnosis. Close to F. paranana from which it differs in the shape of pronotum and elytral coloration ( Figs 4, 5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ).

Redescription. Whole body dark brown, only lateral margins of pronotum, longitudinal humeral stripes, and apical 1/4–1/5 of elytra yellow ( Figs. 4, 5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Eyes small, distance between eyes 1.5x (male) –1.4x (female) longer than maximal eye diameter in lateral view. Maxillary and labial palpi dark brown. Pronotum 1.5x wider than long at base ( Figs. 19, 20 View FIGURES 16 – 30 ). Elytra 3.7x longer than wide in humeral portion. Male genitalia with parameres reaching slightly over distal constriction of phallus ( Fig. 57–59 View FIGURES 54 – 65 ). Female genitalia slender, coxites almost straight, approached distally ( Fig. 70 View FIGURES 69 – 76 ). Body length: 6.9 (male)– 9.3 mm (female), humeral width: 1.6 (male)– 2.2 mm (female).

Remark. Antennae of F. longehumeralis damaged, antennomeres 3–11 of both antennae missing. Holotype of F. callangana with antennomeres 3–11 of both antennae missing.

Comment. Pic (1922) described a male and a female of Falsocaenia from the same locality (Callanga, Peru) as two different species— Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) longehumerale (female) and I. (F.) callanganum (male). An examination of the holotypes showed the only difference of the two specimens in the coloration of pronotal margins (yellow or black). As some intraspecific variation of coloration was examined in Falsocaenia, F. callangana is considered to be a younger synonym of F. longehumeralis .
