TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Puebla, Mt. Orizaba .
DISTRIBUTION: Extreme S. Utah and S.W. Colorado ( U.S.A.), south in mountains to C. Oaxaca ( Mexico).
COMMENT: Subgenus Microtus ; see Anderson, 1959, Univ. Kans. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist., 9:415-511, and Gromov and Polyakov, 1977:319. Hooper and Hart, 1962, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Mich., No. 120, 68 pp., placed this species in genus Microtus , subgenus Pitymys, closely allied with ochrogaster and pinetorum (RSH), but the dental pattern shows no resemblance to Pitymys ( CAR). Includes fulviventer; see Musser, 1964, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. Univ. Mich., 636:122.
