DISTRIBUTION: C Washington, W Oregon, and California ( USA) to Baja California Norte ( Mexico).

SYNONYMS: anthonyi Mearns, 1897; fossor Peale, 1848; heermanni Le Conte, 1852; leporinus Audubon and Bachman, 1841; nigripes Bryant, 1889 .

COMMENTS: Subgenus Hesperosciurus ( Hall, 1981:433) .
