TYPE LOCALITY: "Near summit of White Mountain, Siskiyou Mountains , altitude 6,000 feet [1,829 m], [ Siskiyou Co. ,] California " [ USA] .

DISTRIBUTION: Siskiyou Mtns and coast of N California to C Oregon ( USA).

COMMENTS: Subgenus Neotamias . Elevated from a subspecies of townsendii by Sutton and Nadler (1974); distinction supported by Kain (1985), Sutton (1987), and Gannon and Lawlor (1989).
