Diagnosis. For diagnosis of postlarval forms see Gabryś (1999).
Larva. Gnathosoma with stephanostome, the latter extended dorsally into paired lamellar projections. Palp femur and palp genu with minute setae. Hypostomalae (tritorostral setae, bs) with finger-like protuberances. Scutum and scutellum present on idiosomal dorsum. Scutum with three pairs of non-sensillary setae and one pair of trichobothria. Antero-lateral flaps of scutum (stolascutum) deflexed, not covered with fimbriae. Scutellum with c1 setae. Plates of d1 and c2 enlarged. fCx=2-1-1. Solenidia on genua I–III extending beyond tibiae. Tarsi I–II terminated with paired claws and claw-like empodium. Tarsus III terminated with modified inner claw (smilum), claw-like empodium, outer claw, scopa and branched, not bifurcate distally, lophotrix.
Type species. Microthrombidium geographicum var. intermedium Feider, 1950 , by original designation.
Distribution. Western Palaearctic.
