Type species: Bocchus flavicollis Ashmead, 1893 , orig. desig.
FEMALE: fully winged, or brachypterous, or micropterous; occipital carina complete; palpal ratio: 6/3; in fully winged adults, forewing with three cells enclosed by pigmented veins (CC, BC, SBC) and with stigmal vein and pterostigma present; fore tarsus chelate; segment 5 of fore tarsus usually with inner membranous band, occasionally without inner membranous band, but in this case with one only preapical lamella; tibial spurs 1, 1, 1.
MALE: fully winged; occipital carina complete; mandibles with 1–4 teeth; quadridentate mandibles always with intermediate rudimentary tooth; palpal ratio: 6/3; forewing with three cells enclosed by pigmented veins (CC, BC, SBC) and with stigmal vein and pterostigma present; occipital carina complete; parameres without inner branch wrapping penis; tibial spurs 1, 1, 2.
SPECIES: 91 extant species + two fossil species ( Bocchus vetustus Olmi, 1991 , from Dominican amber, and Bocchus ? cenomanianus Olmi, Rasnitsyn & Guglielmino, n. sp.).
