( Figs 21 View FIGURES 21–25 ̄31)

Staurella luteifasciata Senior-White 1922: 158 View in CoL .

Euphranta luteifasciata (Senior-White) ; Norrbom et al., 1999: 149.

Coelotrypes luteifasciatus (Senior-White) ; Hancock and Drew, 2005: 6.

Diagnosis: This species has been described by Senior-White (1922) except for male and female genitalia. Flies are reddish brown with fulvous face in both sexes, prominent yellow medial vitta and lateral black stripes on scutum. Wing hyaline with subapical band and prominent apical band. Abdomen reddish-brown with lateral black stripes. Epandrium black basally, fulvous apically (dome-shaped in profile view) with elongate tubular proctiger possessing tuft of black hairs along its entire length. Phallus 1.8 mm long; glans of phallus with ring-shaped, patterned acrophallus and prominent vesica. Oviscape reddish brown, 1.5 mm long, aculeus short (0.9 mm) with trilobed tip, four pairs of preapical setae and 4 preapical indentations. Eversible membrane (1.3 mm) with well developed taeniae, spicules on distal end conical, spermatheca oblong with numerous elongate spine-like projections.

III instar larva: Cephalic segment or gnathocephalon ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 35–39 ) short with sensory lobes separated by shallow medial depression. Antenna 2-segmented with basal segment longer than apical segment; apical segment almost conical. Maxillary sense organ (= palpus) with 4 visible sensilla and additional 2 sensilla placed slightly anterolaterally to it.

Preoral (stomal sensory) organ without teeth; number of peg-like sensilla indistinguishable. Facial mask almost bean shaped, mouth opening surrounded with 9 serrated oral ridges. Accessory plates and median oral lobe between mouthhooks not developed. Oral teeth present.

Mouthhook (mandibular sclerite) ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32–34 ). Broad with blunt, short apical hook and preapical tooth as deep as apical hook. Ventral apodeme broad, perpendicular to mandibualar sclerite. Hypopharyngeal (= hypostomal) sclerite almost bar-shaped, as long as mandibular sclerite, heavily sclerotised and fused to pharyngeal sclerite, hypopharyngeal bridge beyond the centre of the sclerite. Parastomal sclerite/bar reaching middle of hypostomal sclerite. Dental sclerite absent. Labial (subhypostomal) sclerite with elongate arms. Anterior sclerite not sclerotised; dorsal and ventral cornua light brownish, anterior margin of dorsal bridge oblique, parallel to hypopharyngeal sclerite; ventral bridge not prominent.

Thoracic and abdominal segments. Smooth with dorsal, lateral and ventral spinules on T1̄T3. Abdominal segments with ventral spinules restricted to creeping welts ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 39–40 ). Anterior spiracle with 12 tubules ( Figs 33 View FIGURES 32–34 , 37 View FIGURES 35–39 ).

Caudal segment with spiracular area oblique in profile, limited by dorsal sensilla, lateral sensilla and caudal ridges with sensilla. Posterior spiracle ( Figs 34 View FIGURES 32–34 , 39 View FIGURES 35–39 ) with three spiracular slits, each 3̄4 times as long as wide. Dorsal and ventral spiracular bundles with 5¯6 single or double hairs per group; lateral spiracular bundle with 6¯7 single or double hairs. Spiracles placed apart, shortest distance between the spiracles longer than length of individual spiracular slit. Anal lobes ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 35–39 ) flat with 5̄6 rows of spinules anterior and posterior to the lobes.

Length. 6.9–7.8 mm long, 1.2–1.5 mm wide (N=4).
