Elachista staintonella Chambers, 1878b: 96 View in CoL . Type locality: U.S.A., Texas ( Chambers 1878b: 96) (sex not stated); according to Miller & Hodges (1990: 56) a syntype ♂ in MCZ. Kaila (1999b: 112) considers the specimen to be the holotype .
Subgenus: Elachista View in CoL ; praelineata View in CoL species group.
Distribution: Nearctic. U.S.A. (Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming).
Larval host plant(s): unknown.

Remarks: Kaila (1999b: 111, 112) erroneously placed E. staintonella in the Elachista gleichenella species group.
