Pseudeurybata dasypogon View in CoL new species
Figs. 24–31 View FIGURES 24 – 31
Description. 17 mm. Head with epicephalon shining but otherwise pollinose. Frontal vitta broad anteriorly, barely distinguishable from narrow orbital strips, postocellar part of vitta evenly tapered, slightly wider than ocellar triangle at posterior extreme. One lower fronto-orbital seta. Base of arista yellow and slightly swollen; arista sparsely microsetose in basal fifth. Clypeus bare and shining.
Thorax mostly dark brown with silvery pruinose highlights, notum with a dark silvery central longitudinal vittae that extends from scutum across the scutellum. Postpronotal lobe brown, with a strong dark carina at posteroventral margin. Anepisternum and anterior part of katepisternum with sparse small dark setae.
Legs brown, except for white basal 4/5 of tarsomere one of the foreleg and white basal half of tarsomere one of the hind leg. Wing infuscated, slightly darker along leading edge; halter knob dark.
Female abdomen with pleuron entirely blackish; oviscape broad and brown basally, abruptly tapered and black distally, 3.5X length of T6. Spermathecal ducts smooth, paired spermathecae almost spherical but with distal surface indentate, striate, with elongate and prominently long-tuberculate bases; single spermatheca elongate oval, small.
Male abdomen of available specimens with discolored pleuron; S2 with an anterior window narrowly closed by an anterior sclerotized strip (known males of other species have a uniformly sclerotized S2); S5 with genital fork robust, with short, incurved arms and short inner basal tubercles with 3–4 short, stout teeth; epandrium strikingly long-setose posteroventrally, longest setae longer than epandrial height. Distiphallus very broad, terminating in a phallic bulb about one third as long as basal part of phallus.
Type material. Holotype ♂ and paratype ♀ ( CNCI). MEXICO. Chiapas. 10miSE San Cristobal, 9.v.1969, 7000', H. J. Teskey. These two specimens had been labelled as " Pseudeurybata mexicana sp. n. " by L. Albuquerque.
Etymology. The specific name dasypogon is from the Greek for "shaggy beard", and refers to the hirsute posteroventral epandrial corners.
Distribution. Mexico
Remarks. The combination of unbanded femora, a white tarsomere one on the foreleg, and a half white tarsomere one on the hind leg is diagnostic, as are both male and female terminalia. The dark silvery black median vitta on the scutum is also distinctive but resembles that of P. rufilabris .
