Glossodrilus Righi & Ayres, 1975 . Righi 1975, 1982; Zicsi 1995. Type species. Glossodrilus parvus Cognetti, 1905 .
Diagnosis. Number of species: 55. Distribution: Ecuador (25), Colombia (15), Brazil (5), Costa Rica (4), Panama (4), Venezuela (2), Bolivia (1), Peru (1), Argentina (1). In some cases, the species are distributed in several countries, for example G. nemoralis ( Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama), G. parecis ( Argentina, Brazil), G. crucifer ( Ecuador, Peru). This list does not include undescribed species listed in Brown & Fragoso (2007).
Genus diagnosis, modified, following Righi (1995): Eight setae per segment. One pair of intra-clitellar male pores. One pair of calciferous glands in segments 11 and 12 of intertwined-tubular structure, without glandular and membranous division. Three or two pairs of lateral hearts in segments 7–9 and two pairs of intestinal hearts in segments 10, 11. One pair of testes and male funnels present in segment 11. Seminal vesicles generally long. Copulatory chambers absent. Spermathecae mostly present, usually without seminal chambers or diverticula.
