TYPE:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: São Roque de Minas, Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra , Garagem de Pedras, estrada para Sacramento, campo limpo, solo arenoso-pedregoso, 3 meses após a queimada, 9 December 1994, J.N. Nakajima & R. Romero 726 (holotype HUFU!, isotypes OUPR! , SPF! )

Replaced name — Paepalanthus petraeus Echtern. & Trovó, Systematic Botany 46(1): 24. 2021, nom. illeg.,

Etymology:— The epithet refers to a symbolic and representative expression of the local speech in the state of Minas Gerais. The word “uai” is an interjection expressing surprise, astonishment, amazement, wonder, impatience; or used to reinforce what has been said, questioning the interlocutor’s doubt ( Houaiss and Villar 2001). It was chosen as it represents the state in which the species occurs.

Notes:— The description of Paepalanthus petraeus was based on Linden 1302, which presents twelve exsiccates stored in nine herbaria. However, Körnicke (1863) did not specify any herbarium where Linden 1302 was deposited. According to Moldenke (1975), the type material was deposited in the Munich Herbarium (M), but no material was found in M. The specimen in LE, on the other hand, is the only specimen annotated by Körnicke, and is where Körnicke did part of his work. Therefore, we propose the specimen deposited at LE (LE00001201) as the lectotype.
