Neochauliodes robustus View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 6 View FIGURES 1–9 , 28–31 View FIGURES 28–31 , 42 View FIGURE 42 )
Diagnosis. Head dark, dorsally with lateral and central vertex yellowish brown; wing with blackish brown background and broad hyaline areas; male tenth sternum in lateral view narrow to proximal 1/3, but becoming thicker afterward with blunt tip.
Male. Body length 25–28 mm; forewing length 33–34 mm, hindwing length 28–30 mm.
Head dark, dorsally with lateral and central vertex yellowish brown. Compound eyes brown, ocelli pale yellow with black inner margin. Antenna black. Mouthparts dark, mandibles with distal half pale brown.
Prothorax pale yellowish brown with pronotum brownish on posterior half; meso– and metathorax pale brown, dorsally with lateral portions black. Legs brown with short, dense, yellowish brown setae; tarsal claws pale red. Wings ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–9 ) with dark distal areas and rather wide median transverse bands, sometimes dark marks expanded and connected, forming dark wings with several broad hyaline areas; pterostigma short, pale yellow; costal area with one dark stripe proximal to pterostigma and with one or two dark marks on proximal portion. Veins dark, except in hyaline areas pale yellow. Rs four–branched, R 2 distally three–branched; three crossveins between R 1 and Rs; M two–branched; 1A two–branched.
Abdomen brown. Tenth tergum ( Figs. 28, 30 View FIGURES 28–31 ) in lateral view subquadrate with rounded distal margin, in dorsal view strongly inflated distally. Tenth sternum ( Figs. 28–29 View FIGURES 28–31 ) strongly sclerotized; in ventral view broad subtrapezoidal with tip slightly incised; in lateral view thick, slightly curved dorsad, with distal half inflated with tip bluntly pointed.
Female. Body length 30–32 mm; forewing length 35–41 mm, hindwing length 32–36 mm.
Eighth sternum subtrapezoidal in lateral view, with distal margin strongly produced posteriorly. Tenth tergum ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 28–31 ) thick with dorsodistal corner produced posteriorly. Gonocoxite ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 28–31 ) membranous, subquadrate with rounded tip, obliquely directed dorsad.
Type materials. Holotype ♂, CHINA: Chongqing: Fengdu, Shiping , 610 m, 2.VI.1994, Y. Zhang ( IZCAS) . Paratypes: CHINA: ♂, same data as for holotype, W. Li ( IZCAS) ; 36 ♂ 14 ♀, Sichuan: Mt. Emeishan , 550–1000 m, 26.IV/ 11. VI .1957, F. Zhu ( IZCAS) .
Etymology. The specific epithet ‘ robustus ’ refers to the thick male tenth sternum of the new species.
Distribution. China (Chongqing, Sichuan).
Remarks. The new species appears to be closely related to N. koreanus in having similar wing patterns, but can be easily separated by the rather thick male tenth sternum. In N. koreanus , the male tenth sternum is slender.
