Diagnosis: Discs small with elongate, tapering arms. Single row of marginal plates. Papular pores in longitudinal and transverse rows. Disc and arm plates reticulate or imbricate in arrangement. Smaller secondary spines cover most plates. Actinolateral spines (i.e. below marginal plate series) with larger primary spines appressed or facing abactinally. Superambulacral plates present. Pedicellariae straight (absent in Pholidaster ). Adambulacrals alternately carinate. Tube feet in four rows becoming two rows distally.
