Pantiala germari Faust, 1898: 205 View in CoL . (type locality: New Guinea) Redescription. Holotype, female ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 a, e). Length 3.68 mm. Color black; elytra and pronotum with narrow patches of white scales. Rostrum slender, with lateral contours concave, weakly converging to antennal insertion; without median ridge, in apical half simple, sparsely punctate. Forehead densely, coarsely punctate, without median impression; bordering eye with sparse white scales. Pronotum 1.5 X wider than long; dorsally densely, coarsely punctate, towards sides foveate, interspaces reticulate; with white median line of recumbent, subovate scales; anterolaterally behind eye with patch of white scales becoming sparser posteriorly. Elytron with intervals flat, except sutural interval behind scutellum with weak, densely punctate swelling; interval 4 in apical 1/3 with elongate patch of white scales, forming angle with shorter patch of interval 6; interval 9 in basal half and subapically covered with white scales; base medially weakly constricted, almost straight. Thoracic venter. Ventral rim of mesothoracic receptacle punctate, with sparse white scales. Metaventrite laterally with sparse white scales. Legs. Femora and tibiae sparsely clothed with narrow white scales; apical third of femora dorsally more densely covered by white scales; femur and anterior tibial face of hind and midleg more densely clothed than of foreleg. Profemur in basal 1/3 with indistinct angulation. Abdominal venter with punctures of ventrites 1-2 bearing sparse white scales. Ventrite 5 sparsely covered with white scales. Female terminalia. Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 b–d.

Material examined. Holotype by monotypy, female: Neu Guinea (labels Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 f), ARC 5043 View Materials (PCR failed); condition: fair; left foreleg missing; remounted on card; genitalia in glycerol in microtube ( SMTD) . Other material examined: 1 female, New Guinea,” Gebr. W. Müller Vermächtnis”, ARC 5044 View Materials (PCR failed) ( SMTD) .

Distribution. New Guinea.

Notes. Faust (1898) mentions that the description is based on a single, presumably female specimen. A second specimen arrived at a later date at SMTD and is not part of the type series. Both specimens exhibit some morphological differences and are likely to belong to different, though closely related species.
