Tropidonotus piscator lateralis Wall, 1907
[ Tropidonotus piscator ] var. lateralis Wall, 1907: 861 , pl. 4, fig. 2.—Type locality. “Central Provinces”, India.— Onomatophores. Syntypes: specimen depicted by Wall (1907: pl. 4, fig. 2) and others not traced.
Status. A subjective junior synonym of Hydrus piscator Schneider, 1799 , now Xenochrophis piscator . Synonymized with Natrix piscator by Smith (1943: 294).
Comments. Wall (1907) regarded this taxon as a variety of Tropidonotus piscator and provided a valid description. Wall also included many specimens under this name, but briefly mentioned only two specimens collected and discussed by Blanford (1870) from the “Central Provinces”. According to the plate and morphological characters provided by Wall, we refer this variety to X. piscator .
