Tropidonotus asperrimus Boulenger, 1891: 281 .—Type locality. “Ceylon”, Sri Lanka.— Onomatophores : Syntypes: BMNH 1946.1.13.33–34, BMNH 1946.1 .12.43, BMNH 1946.1.15.22–23, BMNH 1946.1 .15.17, BMNH 1946.1 .15.30, BMNH 1946.1.7.60–61, BMNH 1946.1.12.74–75, BMNH 1946.1 .12.85. Collected by various collectors.
Status. A valid species following Vogel & David (2007), for populations of Sri Lanka sharing the characters defined below. Previously, it had been synonymized with Xenochrophis piscator by Smith (1943: 293).
Comments. No type was mentioned in the original description; the list of syntypes is based on the collection catalogue of the BMNH. Because all syntypes unambiguously belong to this species, we refrain to designate a neotype.
