Tropidonotus sanctijohannis Boulenger, 1890
Tropidonotus sancti-johannis Boulenger, 1890: 350 .—Type locality. “Kashmir”, India.—Onomatophore. Holotype: BMNH 1946.1 .13.61. Collected by Sir O. B. St. John , presented by W. T. Blanford.
Status. Synonymyzed with Xenochrophis piscator by Smith (1943: 293). This taxon is here considered a subjective synonym of X. piscator but available as X. sanctijohannis if patternless specimens inhabiting northern India, Nepal and northern Pakistan proved to be distinct from X. piscator .
Comments. In contrast to the statement made by Smith (1943: 293), this taxon was described from a preserved specimen (BMNH 1946.1.13.61; Figs 14–16) and was not based on Günther (1858, 1864). The original description was expanded by Boulenger (1893: 230).
