Type:— ECUADOR. Prov. Pastaza, Cant. Pastaza, Localidad exacta: Pozo petrolero “Moretecocha” de Arco. Río Landayacu. 75 km al este de Puyo. Bosque húmedo Tropical. 01˚34’ S 077˚25 ’ W, 580 m, 4 December 1990, E. Gudiño 1190 (holotype: QCNE!; isotype: MO!) .

Paratype:— ECUADOR. Prov. Pastaza, Cant. Pastaza, 01°30’S, 77°30’W, 18 December 1991, Gudiño & Gualinga 1622 ( MO!, QCNE!).

Diagnosis (from Huamantupa 2012):—Large trees to 40 m. Branchlets, leaves and inflorescence ferrugineous-tomentose. Leaves with laminae 16–23 × 5–7.8 cm. Flowers yellow, 1 to 3 per cincinnus, the spurred sepal 1.2–1.5 × 0.2–0.3 cm, the petal solitary, about equalling the stamen. Differs from Vochysia schomburgkii Warming (1875: 78) by the leaves over 16 cm long, from Vochysia eximia Ducke (1915: 45) by the larger stature of the tree, and from both species by the petals equalling the stamens in length.
