Material examined. TALUD XV, St. 10 (24º20'42"N, 112º44'48"W), Jul 29, 2012, 1 juv. (CL 19 mm), BS operated at 2088–2125 m (ICML-EMU-12305) GoogleMaps .
Distribution. Semi-cosmopolitan, between 66°N and 48°S; Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans ( Ibarra Rivera & Hendrickx 2008). According to Ibarra Rivera & Hendrickx (2008), G. gigas is commonly found in the California Current area. It is herein reported from a single locality along the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ), which is less than expected.
Remarks. The rarity of specimens in the samples obtained off western Baja California contrasts with results obtained by Ibarra Rivera & Hendrickx (2008) who reported material from nine localities in the California Current area. These localities, however, were mostly further away from the coast line than in the present study ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ).
