Basionym. Carex courtallensis Nees (in Boott 1858: 52). Type :— Pennisula, eastern India, 1820, Wallich 2380 (holotype, E!; isotype, E!) .
Carex speciosa Kunth subsp. dilatata Noltie (1993: 197) View in CoL . Type:— NAGALAND. Kohima, 21 Oct 1885, C. B. Clarke 41058 (holotype, K!).
This variety differs from Carex speciosa var. speciosa View in CoL by having peduncles enclosed in bract sheaths, and leaves 8–12(–20) mm wide.

Note:— Sometimes this variety has been recognized as a species rank and named Carex courtallensis Nees.
