TYPE LOCALITY: Sweden, Uppsala .
DISTRIBUTION: Alaska ( U.S.A.) to Labrador and Newfoundland ( Canada) and Greenland; Palearctic from Scandinavia to Siberia ( U.S. S.R.) south to Hokkaido ( Japan); Sikhote Alin Mtns. ( U.S. S. R.); Heilungkiang, N. Sinkiang ( China) (SW); Altai, N. Tien Shan; N. Ukraine, and Lithuania; isolated populations in the Alps, Scotland, and Ireland.
COMMENT: Includes othus and arcticus ; see Corbet, 1978:73. Corbet and Hill, 1980:197, listed arcticus as a distinct species; Hall, 1981:318, listed both as distinct species.
