Diagnosis ( Noodt 1963)
Slender body. Eight thoracopods. One-segmented exopod of thoracopod I to VII. Epipod present in Th II to VII. Pleopod I present and very small. Antennule sevensegmented; third segment with secondary flagellum one-segmented; second segment of male antenna with antennal organ. Antenna with four segments, without exopod.
Type species: Chilibathynella clandestina Noodt, 1963 .
Amended diagnosis ( Schminke 1973; Ranga Reddy 2006; Schminke 2011)
Male Th VIII with large subglobular basal segment of the protopod and large bulbous backwards-orientated basipod; basipod is inserted at the same height; small endopod with two or three setae; small exopod with small terminal teeth. Exopod of the Th I to VII one-segmented; seta of the outer edge of the second segment of the thoracopods rudimentary or absent. Antennule seven-segmented; second segment with antennal organ in the males and with three or four peg-shaped and two normal setae. Antenna with four to six segments. Typical mandible with prominent “Borstenlobus” (pars molaris). Maxilla four-segmented and heavily armed with many setae. Th VIII females and first pleopods, one-segmented (female of C. kotumsarensis unknown). Sympod of the uropod with homonomous or inhomonomous row of spines; endopod dagger-shaped with one terminal spine. Dorsolateral furcal organ large.
