Diagnostic description. Body flattened, appendages splayed laterally. Pereon with or without mid-dorsal keel. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 with subrectangular extended mediodistal lobe. Mandible with narrow molar with apical spine. Maxilliped palp 4–articulate. Pereopods simple. Basis of pereopods 5–7 ovate, ventrally more or less expanded. Gills on pereopods 2–6, slender, elongate oval, exceeding basis. Oostegites not overlapping, with short apical setae, on P2 bag-like with a posteriorly directed tip, those on P3–5 rectangular (apically truncate), subequal in length, on P6 also rectangular but shorter than preceding oostegites. Propodi of pereopods 5–7 slender and slightly tapering distally, without anteromarginal excavation. Pleopod 1 with rectangular peduncle, pleopod 3 with medially strongly produced peduncle; rami of pleopods 1–2 long and subequal in length, inner ramus of pleopod 3 very short.
Type species. Iphiplateia whiteleggei Stebbing, 1899 , monotypy.
Included species. Iphiplateia includes 5 species: I. jakei sp. nov.; I. marleneae sp. nov.; I. orientalis Tzvetkova, 1976 ; I. verenaae sp. nov.; I. whiteleggei Stebbing, 1899 .
