Nymphicula xanthocostalis sp. n.

Description of imago (fig. 20). Wingspan 13mm. Head missing from holotype. Thorax ochreous.

Forewing base brown mixed ochreous; costa yellow from subbasal fascia to beyond first strigula; antemedian fascia broad, yellow in costal half, whitish beneath; median zone irregularly scattered with dark brown scales; terminal area yellow; fist strigula white, very broad towards costa; second strigula white pointing into leaden grey lower half; terminal cilia with fuscous scales, white above tornus; tornal spot long, crescent shaped.

Hindwing base fuscous; a broad white subbasal fascia; silver grey tornal spot; a yellow streak from dorsum reaching halfway across wing; a further silver grey spot before first eye-spot; antemedian fascia diffuse, fuscous; median zone thinly and irregularly scaled dark brown; submarginal line clear but broken; five eye-spots each with a silver grey metallic spot on the inside.

Tympanal organs (fig. 46): venulae secundae widely separated, parallel except curved outwards near tympanal organs.

Male genitalia (fig. 67): abdomen without hair pencils. Valva simple, clothed with long setae towards apex, length 3x breadth; gnathos half uncus. Aedeagus without discernible cornutus.

Female genitalia: not known.

Material examined. Holotype ♂ N. Dutch New Guinea | Waigeu, Camp Nok.|, 2500 ft. v.1938 | L.E. Cheesman, BMNH Pyralidae slide No. 17637.

Diagnosis. Distinguished from other species by the conspicuous yellow costa of the forewing.

Derivation from the yellow costa of the forewing.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality, Waigeu, Irian Jaya, New Guinea.
