Costarina palmar , new species ( Figures 505–515)

TYPES: Male holotype and two male paratypes taken by sifting litter in a tropical moist forest at an elevation of 100 m at a site 3 km south of Palmar Norte , Puntarenas, Costa Rica (May 24, 1987; D. Ubick), deposited in CAS (PBI_ OON 51290 View Materials ) .

DIAGNOSIS: Males can be recognized by the arched distal embolar prong and transversely oriented proximal embolar prong (figs. 505–510); females resemble those of C. gemelo (cf. figs. 450–460) and C. pittier (cf. figs. 461–471) in having long apodemes, a distally narrow anterior genitalic process, and a short postepigastric scutum, but have a smaller genital atrium than do those of C. gemelo , and lack the heavily sclerotized posterior genitalic elements found in those of C. pittier (figs. 512–515).

MALE (PBI_ OON 51290 View Materials , figs. 505–510): Total length 1.63. Endite ventral process small; dorsal process elongated. Femur I r0-1-0. Embolus proximal prong transverse, scoop shaped in ventral view; distal prong arched (N = 17).

FEMALE (PBI_ OON 29771 View Materials , figs. 511–515): Total length 2.05. Spination typical. Genital atrium almost rectangular (N = 13).

DISTRIBUTION: Southern Puntarenas, including the Osa Peninsula.
