DISTRIBUTION: Sinkiang, Tibet, Tsinghai, Szechwan ( China) (SW); N. India; Nepal; domesticated in Central Asia.

COMMENT: Includes mutus; but see Corbet, 1978:206.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix I as B. ( grunniens ) mutus and U.S. ESA - Endangered as B. g. mutus subspecies only.

ISIS NUMBER: 5301419009002003001 as B. mutus.
