EOO: 189,247.587 km ². AOO: 100 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Least Concern.

Eugenia xalapensis is distributed in eight states of Mexico, mainly in the coastal region of the Gulf of Mexico, in the states of Tamaulipas and Veracruz. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the thresholds for a threatened category under the criterion B, as well as the area of occupancy (AOO) would likely exceed the thresholds of any threatened category when the remaining habitat available is taken in account. There are more than 10 known locations based on 26 collections recorded within Mexican territory. The occurring biomes are the Humid Montane Forest and the Humid Tropical Forest. The habitat is partially found in well-preserved areas, such as the “Reserva de la Biosfera El Cielo”, in Tamaulipas, and the “Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra Gorda”, in Querétaro (Gobierno de Tamaulipas & TNC 2011, INE-SEMARNAP 1999d). Another important area of occurrence of the species is “Cofre de Perote National Park”, in Veracruz, which presents a medium risk of ecological degradation due to the anthropic activities from which is inferred a continuing decline of habitat in medium time. ( CONABIO, 2018; CONANP, 2015b). Therefore, Eugenia xalapensis is here classified as Least Concern (LC).
