Eugenia capulioides has a distribution on the Pacific coast, in the states of Chiapas, Guerrero and Morelos, in addition to Guatemala ( Barrie 2020). The species can be found from 660 to 1,800 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the threshold for a threatened category under criterion B, whilst the estimated area of occupancy (AOO) falls into the Endangered category. However, the area of occupancy (AOO) is considered underestimated due to the area of habitat available. Six collection records were found in Mexico, four in Chiapas and one for Guerrero and Morelos, and two in Guatemala. The occurring biomes are the Humid Tropical Forest and the Humid Montane Forest. The habitat is in a good state of conservation as it occurs within the “Sierra Mariscal” in Chiapas next to the “Reserva de la Biosfera El Triunfo”, in areas of conserved forest with low ecological degradation (Guerrero) and within the “Parque Nacional El Tepozteco” (Morelos) an important area for the conservation of mountain rainforests ( CONABIO 2018, INE-SEMARNAP 1999b, DOF 1937). Therefore, Eugenia capulioides is classified as Least Concern (LC) considering it does not meet all the required criteria and occurs mainly in protected areas.
