EOO: 11,095.596 km ². AOO: 24 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Near Threatened.
Eugenia amatenangensis has a known distribution only in the state of Chiapas, exclusively on the tops of the hills, oscillating between 750 and 1,880 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) falls within the thresholds of Vulnerable category whilst the estimated area of occupancy (AOO) falls within the thresholds of the Endangered category, under the criterion B. Six collection records were found in 6 different municipalities, from which is inferred 5 locations due to the proximity between two localities around Horizonte. The type of biome where it occurs is the Humid Montane Forest. The habitat of occurrence of the species is under low threat and is an area of high altitude and low agricultural interest ( CONABIO 2018). Therefore, Eugenia amatenangensis is currently classified as Near Threatened (NT) due to restricted distribution and number of locations, meeting the criteria B1a+B2a and it is not under any kind of protected area or conservation measure, even though currently it is not possible to infer a decline of habitat. Thus, attention and further information on population, potential threats and habitat trend are needed to ensure that it would be not threatened in a very short time.
