TD: holotype, female , NHMUK.
Distribution in India: Meghalaya (Khasis) ( Fletcher 1925). Global records: Japan ( Matsumura 1928), Russian Far East, Sakhalin and Japan over Korea and China to northern India, Nepal and northern Vietnam ( Zolotuhin & Witt 2000a).
Remark: Hauenstein et al. (2011) considered five subspecies: ssp. subpurpurea Butler, 1881a , ssp. flavopurpurea O. Bang-Haas, 1927 , ssp. kansuensis O. Bang-Haas, 1939 , ssp. obscurior Zolotuhin & Witt, 2000a and ssp. dharma Hauenstein et al., 2011 ; without mentioning the status of A. subpurpurea dieckmanni Graeser, 1888 from Russia.
