Habitat preference in Iran. Soil.

Provincial distribution in Iran. Isfahan ( Jalaeian et al., 2004, published as Pachylaelaps costai Hirschmann & Krauss, 1965 ).

World distribution. Asia ( Iran and Israel) ( Costa, 1963, 1971; Koroleva, 1977b; Jalaeian et al., 2004), Europe (Southern Europe, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Spain, Tajikistan, and Ukraine) ( Berlese, 1920b; Koroleva, 1977b; Mašán, 2007; Mašán & Halliday, 2014).

Notes. Regarding this species, here we considered all the ecological data of the species O. hispani for O. anovillosus , which had been presented and misidentified by Costa (1963, 1966, 1971) and Koroleva (1977b), based on Mašán (2007) and Mašán & Halliday (2014). Costa (1963, 1971) found O. anovillosus in a large number on the bodies of and in association with adult specimens of Copris hispanus . Costa (1966) observed it feeding on the nematode Panagrellus sp. under laboratory conditions. Koroleva (1977b) found it in forest litter, on Copris sp., C. hispanus , and the Turkestan termite, Anacanthotermes turkestanicus Jacobson, 1904 .
