Bolyphantes nigropictus Simon, 1884 View in CoL
Description: van Helsdingen et al. (2001: 11, figs 75–82, 91–94, 97–98), Bosmans (2006a: 126, figs 5–8).
Previous records: Braga: Vieira do Minho, Serra da Cabreira ( Machado 1941) . Vila Real: Vila Pouca de Aguiar , Pedras Salgadas ( Machado 1941) .
New records: Castelo Branco: Covilhã, Serra da Estrela (CBM) . Évora: Portel N., 2 females, 8.IV.1996 (CRB) .
Distribution: Portugal, the south of France including Corsica, Italy including Sardinia, Austria, Algeria.
Habitat type: Although it seems to have a preference for mountain habitats, this can only be conjectured due to the lack of collections.
Phenology: Machado (1941) collected a male in January and the present data mention females collected in April. Bolyphantes nigropictus is a winter species, as in Algeria, where adult males were caught from November to April, and females from February to April ( Bosmans 2006a).
