Type:— ARGENTINA. Buenos Aires: P. Commerson s.n. (holotype P00745858!, isotype US-2854662 (fragm. ex P)).

= Paspalum ovatum Nees ex Trinius (1826: 113) View in CoL . Type:— BRAZIL. Brasilia, Minas Gerais: W. S. J. G. von Besser s.n. (holotype LE-TRIN-0499.03; isotype US-951908 (fragm. ex LE)).

Distribution:— Introduced in Egypt, where known from the Nile region as well as Sinai Peninsula. In the Middle East, also introduced to Iraq, Palestine and Saudi Arabia. Native to South America: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay ( Wilkin 2014). The species was first recorded in Egypt by Täckholm (1956) ( Table 1). In Egypt, Paspalum dilatatum is a common weed of gardens, nurseries and croplands ( Shaltout et al. 2005).
