Tambocerus Zhang & Webb View in CoL
Tambocerus Zhang & Webb 1996: 8–9 View in CoL ; Shen, Shang & Zhang 2008: 242–243. Type species: Selenocephalus disparatus Melichar 1903 View in CoL , by original designation.
Zhang & Webb (1996) and Shen et al. (2008) have adequately characterized the genus. A revised description largely based on Zhang & Webb (1996) incorporating the variations found in the new species decribed here is given.
Yellow with or without brown irroration. Head narrower than or nearly equal in width to pronotum; anterior margin rounded to face in profile, finely transversely striated; ocelli on margin separated by approximately own diameter from corresponding eye. Anterior tentorial branches Y-shaped. Vertex slightly produced medially slightly transversely sulcate subapically; smooth with some indistinct longitudinal striations. Face with transclypeal suture distinct; laterofrontal suture extended to lateral margin of corresponding ocellus ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 13–23 ); antennae situated slightly below midheight of eyes in facial view, moderately long, clearly shorter than half body length. Pronotum smooth, transversely faintly wrinkled; sides short and carinated. Forewing outer claval vein connected to claval suture with cross vein; three anteapical cells and four apical cells; inner anteapical cell open behind, outer anteapical cell small; appendix narrow; sometimes with white wax patch in middle of costal margin. Fore femur with intercalary row (IC) arcuate with fine setae, one long, stout anteromedian seta (AM1) in line with row IC; anterior ventral (AV) setae short and stout ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 56–66 ). Fore tibia with 5+5 or 1+5 or2+5 or 2+8 (in T. daii sp. nov. the formula may vary from 2+6 to 2+9) dorsal setal formula. Hind femora with apical setal formula 2+2+1 or 2+1+1; metabasitarsomere with one paired row of setae on plantar surface and four platellae on apical transverse row ( Fig. 82 View FIGURES 77–85 ).
Male genitalia. Pygofer frequently with sclerotised apical lobe or internal ledge; lobes either smooth or with distal small sclerotized teeth or prolonged posteriorly or mesally with serrated margins. Subgenital plate elongate triangular shaped, with row of macrosetae, slightly irregular in basal part of plate. Style with apical process short, tapered to apex, some times subapical lobe long ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 47–55 ). Connective Y-shaped, with stem elongate, arms short. Aedeagus with shaft elongate, cylindrical, curved dorsally and tapered to apex, with lateral teeth or lateral spatulate expansion with toothed margin, atrium sometimes ventrally prolonged ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 32–39 ); gonopore apical on posterior surface; dorsal apodeme moderately long. Tenth segment large cylindrical, poorly sclerotized.
Female genitalia. First valvulae with strigate sculpture dorsally in distal half ( Figs 101 View FIGURES 95–101 , 102 View FIGURES 102–106 ). Second valvulae with toothed area in apical one third, subapical tooth present in basal half ( Figs 103, 104 View FIGURES 102–106 ).
Tambocerus disparatus (Melichar) and Tambocerus plumbeus (Distant) were not studied. However, Zhang & Webb (1996) have illustrated the male genitalia and habitus of these species.
