Osbornellus diamantinus Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 38a–38e)

Description. Length: 5.3–6.7 mm. Member of the O. rarus group ( Fig. 1b). Vertex angulate, median length about equal to distance between eyes at posterior margin. General color yellowish. Face pale brown; wide dark band along anterior margin, interrupted by small pale spot, including ocelli, whitish diamond-shaped spot bordered by dark brown, with a white mark along coronal suture, rest of vertex mottled pale brown. Pronotum brown, mottled yellow-brown with irregular light and dark markings. Scutellum mottled yellowbrown with yellow at center, bordered with markings laterally, brown spot in basal angle margined with orange, posteriorly with white spot along each lateral margin. Anterior wing similar to other members of the species group.

Male genitalia: Pygofer about twice as long as greatest width, moderately projected, apex widey rounded; macrosetae long, dispersed along apical half of pygofer ( Fig.38a). Valve triangular, margins rounded, anterior margins slightly curved. Plates long, apex pointed, setae short and dispersed ( Fig. 38b). Style with apophysis very long, straight, apex truncate and curved ( Fig. 38c). Aedeagus in ventral view with base wide, shaft narrow, tapered, shaft longer than ventral processes, apex pointed; dorsal projection with extension tapered sharply to basal margins ( Fig. 38d). Ventral processes arising at one-third of the length from the base of the aedeagus, very narrow, apices pointed. In lateral view shaft narrow, curved dorsad, longer than ventral processes, apices pointed; dorsal projection wide, apex irregularly and slightly curved caudad. Gonopore subapical. Ventral processes very separated from shaft at base, slightly curved dorsad, very narrow, apices pointed ( Fig. 38e).

Diagnosis Externally very similar to O. rarus , but in lateral view the ventral processes of O. diamantinus are very narrow and shorter than the shaft. In O. rarus the ventral processes are thicker and similar in size to the shaft.

Distribution. Known only from Costa Rica; 1100–2600 m.

Etymology. This species is named for the whitish diamond-shaped mark on the vertex.
