Discussion

This species was recently described based on a single male specimen collected in South Korea. Due to a very long delay in the publishing process of the original description of this taxon (Kozánek pers. comm.), it eventually was published as belonging to Moriparia , a genus already synonymized with Claraeola by Skevington & Yeates (2001) at that stage. Hence, M. palgongsana has to be transferred to Claraeola and referred to as Cla. palgongsana ( Kozánek, Suh & Kwon, 2003) comb. nov.

Judging from the detailed drawings provided by Kozánek, Suh & Kwon (2003), there is a high probability that the species will prove synonymous with Claraeola halterata (Meigen, 1838) in the future. At present, no characters suitable for separating the two taxa can be presented and a final assessment of this matter has to wait until the holotype of Cla. palgongsana was studied. A redescription of Cla. halterata can be found in Kehlmaier (2005).
