Description. Female (figs. 19–20, 23–24). Forewing length 20.2 mm (n=4), antennae length 10.5 mm. Antennae plain brown, base of club white-ringed, and yellowish brown before club. Forewing upperside dark brown, basal yellow stripe fully developed; subapical spots in spaces R3-R5 white and small, spot in space R4 extremely small, spot in space R5 the largest; two white dots in spaces M1 and M2 subequal to spot in space R5 and located between spots in space R5 and termen; the spot in space M3 larger than those spots in spaces M1, M2 and CuA2; the spot in space CuA1 equal to spot in cell; lower spot in space CuA2 near origin of vein 2A; underside pattern same as that on upperside, except for clear yellowish striping at base. Hindwing upperside with ground color dark brown, covered with yellowish brown hairs; basal striping and spots well developed, spots orange yellow; the spot in space Rs small and faint; spot in space CuA2 elongate, almost linear. Hindwing underside with ground colour and pattern same as upperside, but marking more distinct and spot in space Rs larger than that in upperside.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 57). Papillae anales triangular, covered with hairs; posterior apophyses slender and long; posterior lamella broad, weakly sclerotized, upper margin slightly arched; ductus bursae long, sclerotized; bursa copulatrix membranous, elongate.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 58–62 View FIGURES 58 – 62 ). Gnathos well developed, densely covered with spines; valva narrow, with distal part U-shaped hooked; aedeagues slender, with a straight cornuti; juxta U-shaped.
Material examined. 3♂, 1♀, Maoershan National Nature Reserve, Guangxi, 06-VII-2003, WANG Min; 1♂, 2♀, the same locality as above, 04-VII-2003, WANG Min; 1♂, the same locality as above, 01-VII-2003, WANG Min; 1♂, Shimentai Nature Reverse, Guangdong, 13-VI-2003, WANG Min; 1♂, Nanling National Nature Reserve, Guangdong, 23-V-2002, WANG Min; 1♀, Shimentai Nature Reserve, Guangdong, 18-V-2002, WANG Min. Distribution ( Fig. 68). China (Guangxi, Fujian, Sichuan); Vietnam.
Remarks. The species was described by Devyatkin (2000) based on a single male specimen from central Vietnam. Wing patterns and male genitalia of the specimens we examined match the original description. The species can be separated from other members of the group with the following characters: forewing upperside, subapical spot in space R4 extremely smaller, and the spot in space R3 larger than spot in space R5; two spots in space CuA2 rounded and subequal in size; the spot in M3 is larger than spots in spaces M1, M2 and CuA2; forewing underside with basal striping well developed; hindwing upperside with the spot in space Rs rather faint. Both the external and genitalia show some differences from other known species in the maculosus group. Considering the male and female characters, we conclude that C. kuznetsovi is a good species.
There are variations in size and shape of spots in the cell and space CuA1 ( Figs. 17 View FIGURES 1 – 20 –24). In addition, the shape of dorso-distal part of valva and juxta are also variable ( Figs. 60, 62–67 View FIGURES 58 – 62 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ): the hook-like projection is semi-erect ( Fig. 63, 64 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ) or erect ( Fig. 60 View FIGURES 58 – 62 , 65 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ); the shape of dorso-distal part of valva is reverse L-shaped ( Fig. 64 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ) or U-shaped ( Fig. 60 View FIGURES 58 – 62 ) and strongly sclerotized ( Fig. 65 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ); the branches of U-shaped juxta are distant ( Figs. 62 View FIGURES 58 – 62 , 66 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ) or slightly closer ( Fig. 67 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ); the basal margin of juxta is sharp ( Figs. 62 View FIGURES 58 – 62 , 67 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ) or slightly flat ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 63 – 67 ).
