Dorcadion micans Thomson, 1867 View in CoL

The Turkish endemic species D. micans was described by Thomson (1867) from “ Armenia ”. Lazarev (2016) stated “ Armenia ” sensu Thomson (1867) is about whole Anatolia. Therefore, the type locality of the species is unknown. The type locality of the species, however, was preliminary accepted by Lazarev (2016) as Central Anatolia because of coincidence of local populations with original description and good preservation of traditional valid names.

Type information. Holotype male, ex collection J. Thomson, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France. Type locality “ Armenia ” (about whole Anatolia).

According to original description of Dorcadion micans in Thomson (1867) (translated):

“Small, black, glossy; pronotum with fine punctation and without median white pronotal line; elytra very fine sparsely punctate, with a white sutural line; legs red.

The species close to D. velutinum that is a synonym of D. sericatum , but smaller, convex, black, glossy; the head is small and sparsely punctulatum; first antennal article red, punctate, the remaining articles black; pronotum transverse, sides are armed with fine and sparsely punctuated, without median line; elytra about 3 times longer than pronotum, convex, fine and sparsely punctuated everywhere, suture with white pubescence; the abdomen somewhat shining, black, very finely punctuated; legs red with gray hairs and very finely punctuated.”

Differs from D. sericatum = D. velutinum in smaller size, less strongly punctuated head, much less strongly punctuated pronotum, finer longitudinal midline, and thinner elytral sutural bands.

Recently, Lazarev (2016) studied this species and designated lectotype. In his work, Dorcadion micans susheriense Breuning, 1970 was upgraded to species level by Lazarev (2016) as Dorcadion susheriense Breuning, 1970 and Dorcadion subvestitum Daniel, 1900 downgraded to subspecies level by Lazarev (2016) as Dorcadion micans subvestitum Daniel, 1900 .

Consequently, according to Lazarev (2016) and Danilevsky (2019), Dorcadion micans Thomson, 1867 has been included two subspecies as the nominative subspecies and Dorcadion micans subvestitum K. Daniel, 1900 from Eskişehir province (Bos-Dagh=Bozdağ). Lazarev (2016) stated the nominative subspecies Dorcadion micans micans Thomson, 1867 is distributed in NE Ankara (Çubuk: Yenice) and Amasya provinces. The new subspecies of Dorcadion micans Thomson, 1867 is described here.
