Neoleprea Hessle, 1917 View in CoL
Hessle, 1917:191–192, Text-Fig. 47.— Hutchings & Glasby, 1988:33.— Hilbig, 2000:262.
Type species: Leprea streptochaeta Ehlers, 1897 , by original designation.
Diagnosis: Branchiae on segments 2–3; eyespots sometimes present; lateral lappets absent; ventral shields from segment 2; nephridial papillae may be present on segments 3–23; 17–40 pairs of notopodia from segment 3; chaetae smooth, distally denticulate; neuropodia from segment 5, uncini avicular in single rows on segments 5–10; thereafter in double rows, arranged face to face.
Remarks: Holthe (1986b) reports 5 valid species, none from the Caribbean region. Kritzler (1984) reported two undescribed species from the Upper Gulf of Mexico. Nevertheless, after the revision of this material, Neoleprea sp. A remains not formally named because of the lack of material in good condition, and Neoleprea sp. B belongs to another genus, possibly Lanicola . Neoleprea sp. 1 is reported herein but undescribed because of the condition of the specimens.
