TROGLOPHILUS OVULIFORMIS: INGRISCH & PAVIĆEVIĆ, 1992 View in CoL

Material examined: See Appendix.

Diagnosis: Large species. Male body length ranges between 16.5– 24 mm; females, 16–23 mm. Body colour milky grey marbled. Male tenth tergite with wide medial lobe that is divided by a central deep depression in two lobes very variable in form, from triangular, lancet form to almost square form ( Fig. 9A–C View Figure 9 ). Female tenth abdominal tergite with two paramedial tooth form protrusions, variable in form from slightly noticeable to very pronounced and wide ( Fig. 9D–F View Figure 9 ). Titillator distally conically protruded with slightly ventrally bended tip. Distally very variable in form from short, wide, and obtuse tip to elongated, narrow, and sharp tip ( Fig. 7C–F View Figure 7 ). Ovipositor elongated and wide, length ranges between 10–14 mm; the widest point is in its proximal third ( Fig. 12H View Figure 12 ), ventral margin almost straight.

Distribution: This thermophilic species is distributed along the Adriatic coast from Albania to Istria ( Fig. 11 View Figure 11 ). It spreads out deeper into the land through canyons of some rivers.

Remarks: Based on the presented details in the description of T. pretneri Us, 1970 and examined specimens from the type locality and most of the other localities mentioned in Us (1970), we concluded that it is a junior synonym of T. ovuliformis .
