Type locality: Panama, Panama Province, Balboa ( Ewing 1925b). Type host: Sigmodon hispidus Say and Ord, 1825 ( Rodentia : Cricetidae ). Type depository: USNM (syntypes). Panama records. In addition to the type data, this species was reported from two unidentified rats in Gatuncillo, Colón Province by Brennan and Yunker (1966). These same authors also reported for F. panamensis the following hosts, a phyllostomid bat, Dermanura tolteca (= Artibeus toltecus ) Saussure, 1860 ( Chiroptera : Phyllostomidae ), two marsupials, D. marsupialis and M. robinsoni ( Didelphimorphia : Didelphidae ) and ten rodents, H. gymnurus , P. semispinosus ( Rodentia : Echimyidae ), C. quichua (= C. rothschildi ) ( Rodentia : Erethizontidae ), H. adspersus (= L. adspersus ), H. australis ( Rodentia : Heteromyidae ), H. megacephalus
(= O. capito ), M. caliginosus (= O. caliginosus ), S. hispidus , Transandinomys bolivaris (= Oryzomys bombycinus ) (J.A. Allen, 1901) and Z. brevicauda ( Rodentia : Cricetidae ) from Gamboa, Summit Botanical Gardens in Panama Province, and Pedro Miguel River and Almirante in Bocas del Toro Province. Other records. Mexico (Brennan 1966; Loomis 1969; Estébanes-González and Cervantes 2005).
