7. Mecyclothorax cuccodoroi Baehr, 2002 View in CoL ( Fig. 32 View Fig )
Mecyclothorax cuccodoroi Baehr 2002: 696 View in CoL ; Baehr 2008: 134, 2014: 127.
Diagnosis. Among Papua New Guinea species with glabrous hind pronotal angles, this species is the smallest, with body length 3.5–3.8 mm ( Baehr 2002). The pronotal hind angles are protruded at their obtuse apex, and the elytral lateral marginal depression is broad and protruded anteriorly laterad the hind angles. This species shares a bisetose pronotum, two dorsal elytral setae, presence of the parascutellar setae, and a single seta at the elytral apex with two species described herein: M.andersoni and M. brispex . It differs from the former in the obtusely angulate pronotal hind angles, and from the latter by its punctate pronotal median base.
Distribution and Habitat. The type locality “Bulldog Rd. Hidden Valley Gold 2550 m ” ( Baehr 2002; Fig. 32 View Fig ) lies southwest of Mt. Kaindi (2,350 m elevation), toward the highest point of the road intersecting the World War II era Bulldog Road at 3,000 m elevation ( Gressitt 1970). Hidden Valley Gold Mine is adjacent to the Edie Creek gold fields noted in the map of Brass (1964, fig. 1).
