Type species. Scipinia horrida Stål 1859 , by monotypy.
Diagnosis. Body elongate, elliptical. Head shorter than or subequal to pronotum, armed above with three long spines on each side and with several small obscure spines or spinules between or around them; anteocular portion much shorter than postocular; first antennal segment slightly longer than or subequal to head; ocelli widely separated; first and second rostral segments subequal in length. Anterior pronotal lobe with four long spines and with several smaller spines around them; posterior pronotal lobe unarmed, densely reticularly depressed, lateral angles directed slightly upward; posterior margin of pronotum with a few minute tubercles; mesosternum with small tubercle on each side; fore femur incrassate, nodulose, with long spine above subapically, beneath with two series of spines; fore femur and tibia subequal in length, fore tibia with two series of small tubercles. Abdomen in female dilated laterally, especially at fifth and sixth segments. Pygophore process large, parameres absent or, if present, small.
