Basionym: Curculigo seychellensis Bojer ex Baker (1877: 368) View in CoL

Type (neotype, designated here):— SEYCHELLES, Herbarium Blackburn, collected by Horne No. 241 (K-000524188!)

Notes:— Baker (1877) made the first sketchy description of the species mentioning Bojer (1837), who listed the name Curculigo seychellensis in his Hortus Mauritianus (1837). We were not able to trace any original material for this name. The specimen chosen as neotype is mentioned in Baker’s ‚Synopsis of Hypoxidaceae’ from 1878 published just one year after his 1877 work on the Flora of Mauritius and the Seychelles ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ).

Additional specimens examined:— cult. Bot. Garden Bonn, 25 April 2008, Lobin 13667 ( BONN!) ; Mahé, Sealark Expedition 1908, Stanley s.n. ( K!) ; Mahé, Pente Sud de Morne Blanc , November 1980, F. ( BM!) ; Mahé, August 1989, Rosemary Wise 89 ( OXF!) ; Mahé, Le Niol, May–July 1991, Rosemary Wise 158 ( OXF!) .

Distribution:— Seychelles: Curieuse, Fregate, Mahé, Praslin, Silhouette, Thérèse ( Hill 2002, Gerlach 2011b).

Ecology:—moist rain forest to dry, rocky habitats at mid or high altitudes ( Gerlach 2011b, Hansen & Laboudallon 2013).

Conservation status:—The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species places this species in the category of Least Concern (LC) as it is widespread and locally abundant with stable populations, only locally threatened by fires ( Gerlach 2011b).
