Genus Naranjia View in CoL gen. nov.

Type species Salinator cf. swatowensis Yen, 1939 ( Hong Kong form).

Etymology: Derived from narangi (Hindi—orange), referring to the brownish-orange colour of the shell.

Diagnosis: Shell diameter to 7 mm, fragile, brownish-orange, smooth; last whorl inflated, sometimes with spiral ridge on rounded shoulder, spire short; umbilicus intermediate width, lacking umbilical fold; aperture with flattened, indented sinus. Operculum thin, corneous, pale yellow with eccentric, paucispiral nucleus, inner surface lacking elaboration around nucleus. Head unpigmented in formalin-preserved specimens. Mantle cavity with opposed ciliary tracts restricted to exhalant canal; hypobranchial gland containing large, mucus-filled, chambers. Radula with central tooth, single lateral tooth, approximately 25 marginal teeth on each side of radula; central tooth with 13–17 cusps, mesocone enlarged, adjacent cusps bearing numerous smaller cusps, other cusps decreasing in length towards outer edge of tooth; lateral teeth with u-shaped gap between innermost and adjacent cusps; marginal teeth elongate, narrow. Central nervous system euthyneurous, cerebral and pleural ganglia fused; presence of subcerebral and parapedal commissures not confirmed; visceral loop concentrated, parietal ganglia positioned asymmetrically, accessory ganglion lacking. Seminal vesicle diverticulum from upper hermaphrodite duct, seminal receptacle black pigmented. Spermovipositor folded across aperture of spermoviduct, with half-spiral plate fused to distal spermovipositor sheath; numerous long, finger-shaped papillae covering distal spermovipositor. Spermovipositor sheath with enlarged pocket on left of spermovipositor, forming ‘accessory bursa’ with narrow aperture. Prostatic gland blind-ending, tubular, uniform for entire length. Egg mass unknown.

Remarks: The type species of this genus is intended to be the Hong Kong taxon described below, not Salinator swatowensis Yen 1939 , if it proves to be distinct. Salinator swatowensis was originally included in Salinator based on shell characters ( Yen 1939). However, anatomically, the Hong Kong material attributed to N. cf. swatowensis is clearly separable from species of Salinator . The central and lateral radular teeth are distinctive and the spermovipositor is folded and bears long, unchitinised papillae. The spermovipositor sheath has a unique enlarged pocket and the hypobranchial gland has large mucus chambers which are not present in Salinator .
