(Figs. 3.1–3.14)
Description: Body length 1.2–1.7 mm (males), 1.5–2.1 mm (females). Generally similar to B. abundantia , but the colour contrast between the yellowish gena and the dark brown thorax is more pronounced.
Wing: Distance between radial fork and r-m 6x length of r-m; dm-cu 2x length of r-m and distance between crossveins 2.3x length of dm-cu.
Male abdomen and terminalia: S5 with a pair of posteromedial lobes, lobes posteroventrally with medially directed spicules; a row of strong setae anterior to lobes; row longer than width of modified posteromedial part of sclerite. Cercus laterally compressed, uniform in width, apex distinctly bent anteriorly (almost 90°). Surstylus ventrolaterally with thumb-like process and ventrally with smaller tooth-like protuberance. Distiphallus LFS sheetlike, apically long and tapered; FDS form a posteriorly bent tongue; SDS weakly sclerotized, spatulate.

Etymology: This species is the largest, most heavy-bodied species of Bromeloecia . Thus, the name refers to the body size (Latin ‘magnus’: large, great).
Comments: B. magna is found at relatively high elevations in the mountain ranges of Costa Rica and northern Panama. It is the largest species of Bromeloecia . Although B. magna and B. abundantia differ widely in body size, they are very similar in external characters (to differentiate the two, see comments below the description of B. abundantia ). Male cerci of B. magna are always flexed inwards in dry specimens.
