Diagnosis

This species can be separated from other species of Cryptolechia by the forewing pattern comprised only of black dots, and the valva with a hairy pad near the base of the ventral margin.

Description

Forewing length 16.016.5 mm. Head somewhat pale brownish yellow. Labial palpus brownish yellow, with black scales on lateral surface of second segment. Antenna with ventral surface pale yellow, dorsal surface brown; flagellum scales alternately brown and brownish yellow dorsally. Thorax, tegula, and forewing lutescent, with brown scales. Forewing lanceolate, with distinct black dot at middle of cell, end of cell, and at middle of fold; apical portion with dense brown scales; tornus with a blackish spot; cilia yellow. Hindwing and cilia pale gray. Legs pale yellowish white, with pale brown speckles on tibiae and tarsi.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 13–16 ): Uncus short conical, length about 1.8 x basal width, posterior margin narrowly rounded, basally with long setae laterally. Tegumen a relatively short narrow band. Valva large, slightly narrowed in basal 1/3, gradually expanded to about 2/3, slightly narrowing to broadly rounded apex; ventral margin with a hairy pad near base. Sacculus irregularly triangular, forming a sclerotized process distally. Saccus subtriangular, narrowly rounded at apex. Aedeagus nearly as long as valva, with three large sclerotized rodlike cornuti.

Female: Unknown.

Etymology This specific name is from the Latin stictus (maculate), in reference to the black dots of the forewing.
