Differential diagnosis. The apical antennal flagellomeres of Pneumia View in CoL species are globular to barrel-shaped in the longitudinal axis, each with a digitiform apical protuberance about as long as the basal (globular) part of the flagellomere, or longer. The remnants of ventral epandrial sclerite are elongate and conical, wrinkled and constricted in some parts, widened proximally and pointed distally. The gonostyle is in basal part as broad as gonocoxite distally, or if broad and swollen, then the end of gonostyle is often shortened and steeply (abruptly) narrowed, bent or compressed to the inner side of gonopod. In Saraiella Vaillant, 1981 View in CoL , the apical flagellomere is ovoid or conspicuously prolonged, cylindrical or irregularly enlarged, only rarely with a very small, short, blunt and thick terminal protuberance on the longitudinal axis of the antenna. The remnants of ventral epandrial sclerite are mostly flat, not conical, almost rectangular, and slightly widened in the transverse axis. The gonostyle is conspicuously elongate bulbose basally, broader than distal part of gonocoxite and gradually taperred to the top, only inconspicuously bent.
Distribution. Our current knowledge of the distribution of Pneumia suggests that it is primarily a Holarctic genus with few species also known from North Africa and the Oriental region.
